  • They made the show I'm playing on Saturday 21+ when it previously was going to be all-ages. I am so mad. Soooo mad.
Ughhh. Why can't they just do the X's-on-hands thing? Isn't that, like, industry standard?
It's even more absurd because the place has two rooms, one is where the bar is and the other is the stage area and they don't allow you to take your drinks into the stage area. The stage room also has its own door, so there's really no reason why we can't just have the underage kids restricted to that room. It might be that it's about selling drinks, because it's a free show, so I posted on the FB event and tagged someone who works there saying that I'd be willing to pay $5 out of my own pocket for anyone under 21 who wants to come in and listen to the music. Hopefully I get a response, or a really really good reason why this show can't be all-ages, and this whole thing can be worked out. I'm so sick of this bullshit.

It's also an all-chiptune show, and how old do they really think the audience is for chiptune, seriously.
  • This place sounds a lot like Rochester's Bug Jar. The Bug Jar often has separate pricing for over/under 21. Why can't this place just charge the younger attendees a couple extra bucks?
  • Answer: They don't give a shit.
  • It's never worth it to allow exceptions to policies like that. Even NerdNYC had to basically ban minors from its Recess events to avoid liability.
  • I do understand liability is an issue. But I'm going to talk to the venue and see if we can't work something out. If not, fine. I and about ten other musicians from the LA area are planning to open a full-permitted all-ages artspace this year, which we've already been meeting about for several months and just been approached by someone who is willing to fund us. So if all goes well, no more 21+ shows for the LA chiptune scene, no more backyard shows that get busted by the cops for the LA folk punk scene, and so on.

Basically? In what way didn't they?

As opposed to a more nuanced policy. They also have never checked ID, so while they've said minors are banned, they haven't done anything to specifically enforce it that I've seen.

I'll wager they certified with their insurance that no minors will be present under any circumstances.

  • death to websites that put all their content on one page and have javascript transitions.
Find out what sort of ajax requests they're doing to load content and just load the relevant content pages? Depending of course on whether it's dynamic or something?

They're possibly hurting themselves on SEO and such with that anyway.

Reminds me that I never finished my REST API as a game - game.
  • And then it's on the company for any minor that causes a claim if they didn't demand more proof from NerdNYC.

Most sites that do this load everything at once and just hide/show divs to transition between the different "pages." Search engines can usually read things like this. However, the fact that a user can't send a friend a link to a specific "page" of the site is definitely harmful.

BTW: The way to achieve this effect without being dumb is to do what GitHub does:

  • I meant the sort of transitions that they use on that capitalism website, where they just have it all on one page and the script snaps to the top of the sections but have different colored backgrounds for each section and don't give a fuck that the colors are different.
  • My girlfriend got an iPod for her birthday a few months ago, and it was quickly stolen. I bought her another one off of eBay, and the harddrive failed in less than 24 hours.

  • I feel like crap since a few hours ago and I'm burping up turkey burger (noon). What the fuck is wrong with me.
  • George. Go to your doctor and get a referral to a GI specialist. We talked about this.

I guess that website is what I meant as well but I thought it was doing something else I didn't really look at it.

I dunno I'd call that a Win of My Day.
  • It was in response to the previous discussion, not to the thread title.
  • It's missing something...

    Jquery. That's it.
  • Looks like my whole department may be getting let go because of how poorly my manager handled this holiday season. So far all of management and half of the employees are out. Fuck.
  • At the ER because my body is stupid. >_<

    0.o What?
  • Nothing, my body is an unreliable narrator. I'm fine it seems.
  • Frustration and stressing about seemingly everything in my life right now led to a mini panic attack last night that kept me up really late. I don't know what yet, but something has to change.
  • I seem to have had my first panic attack today, it was awful.

My some magic I did not get let go, but I am one of the 8 left out of a 23 person department. I have no idea why me though, other people were more deserving. It is odd to feel bad that I have a job.

Were you paid less? In layoff season, that's a thing.

Outside the supervisor here I was likely the highest paid. I think it was based on seniority, which only had me luck out as someone else has been here longer but had a short gap where they were not with the company while moving between sites.
